9th Annual Celebration Dinner to Honor Clintonville Business and Community Leaders

The Clintonville Area Chamber of Commerce’s 9th Annual Celebration Dinner and Silent Auction will be held at the Blackwell on Friday, Feb 20, 2009.  The gala event kicks off the Chamber’s program year.

“The Chamber’s Annual Celebration Dinner is really a wonderful opportunity to honor Clintonville businesses and volunteers that make our community great,” said Lynne Genter, of the Clintonville Farmers Market and Dinner Chairperson.  “It continues to grow each year, and we expect a record crowd again in 2009.”

Nomination forms are currently available by clicking the link below or at the Chamber office, 4219 N. High St.  The form will also be appearing in The Booster,  in late December and early January.   Awards to be presented will be the “Business Person of the Year”  which honors an individual for their leadership and business and volunteer contribution to the community, the “Business of the Year” which honors a business and their employees, and “The Booster Community Volunteer of the Year”  presented to a Clintonville resident.

Jeanne Rucker of Panera Bread will serve as the Chamber’s 2009 Silent Auction Chairperson.  Chamber members have found the auction to be a great way to promote their products and services.  Rucker and her committee have already begun contacting members for auction items.  Watch the Chamber’s web site for a list of items that will be up for bid on Feb. 20th.   Auction items will include sports memorabilia,  event and concert tickets, dinners,  unique gift baskets, and more. Event attendees will find some great bargains!

The evening is a great way to entertain important business clients, share a fun evening with employees, or just enjoy a night out with friends.

Whetstone Rec Center  12:00 - 6:00

The Chamber and the American Red Cross have joined together to sponsor the “Clintonville Chamber Blood Challenge” on Dec. 30th.  Chamber members, their employees and their customers can give the “gift of life” by donating blood. The Whetstone Recreation Center, will be the site of the event,  from 12:00 noon until 6:00 pm.  Prizes will be awarded in three categories to participating Chamber businesses based on the size of the company at the Chamber’s January luncheon.

Chamber member Shawn Ford, Donations Coordinator of the ARC’s Central Ohio Blood Services Region organized the blood drive.

“The Clintonville Chamber Blood Challenge is an opportunity for businesses of all sizes to come together with a competitive spirit during a critical time of blood need. This drive is designed for those businesses or organizations that either do not have a good location, donor base, or facility to host a full blood drive. The American Red Cross is very excited to see the members Clintonville Chamber of Commerce reaching out to their community in this new and exciting way,” Ford told the Chamber Notes.

“Several Chamber members hold blood drives at the businesses through out the

year,  but when Shawn came to us with this idea with thought it would be a great

chance for our smaller members to involve their employees and customers,” said

Chamber president Ernie Hartong.  “The need for blood donations doesn’t take a

holiday, it is ongoing.”

Members can come to the Whetstone Recreation Center anytime during the drive

hours on December 30th.  The Chamber would like to thank the Whetstone Rec

Center for hosting the Clintonville Chamber Blood Challenge.

Member’s Optimistic About 2009 With Survey Responses

Say “Customer Service” is #1 Key to Success

What Makes Your Business Successful? That was the key question asked of Clintonville Chamber members in a recent on line survey.  Members overwhelmingly said the one thing that makes the key difference is    Customer Service.

Customer Service 60%

Right People         13%

Technical Knowledge, Passion for the Business, Integrity, all 7%

Question 2

What they would like to see your company do better in 2009?

28% said they need better marketing and advertising.  Other results from question 2 were;

Better utilize technology         16%

Offer more products (services)  11%

More employee training            7%

Be more efficient                       7%

Better educate consumers          7%

Better public relations                7%

Question 3

How much do expect your business to grow in the next 12 months?

By 50% or more              13%

By 25%                            13%

By 10%                            47%

Stay flat                            20%

Don’t Know                        7%

Our staff liked the enthusiastic response of one member, “The sky is the limit!”

Question 4 asked members to rate a number of attributes of their business on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being well below average and 5 being well above average.  Here is the average response in six categories.

Customer service                  4.6

Professionalism of Staff       4.6

Quality of products        4.5

Understanding Customer Needs         4.5

Community Involvement      3.7

Price                                      3.3

Question 5

What is the one thing your business is doing differently that you did a year ago to improve your business?  We all are continuing to make changes in our business, and our members answers were interesting.

“I understand how important networking is to my business, so I am doing more and trying to focus on niche markets.”

“Become more involved in the Clintonville community.”  (The Chamber has plenty of opportunities for that!)

“Ask for more referrals.” (Wow, how many times to we overlook this one, you can’t get the business if you don’t ask.)

“Mailing more things than I did in the past.”

     “More emails, less snail mails.”

     “More staff training.”

     “Working smarter, not harder.”

“Increased efficiency has enabled us to spend more time with clients and less time shuffling paperwork.”

And finally…..

“We’re doing more work with less staff.”

At the Chamber’s November luncheon the survey results were discussed and the luncheon attendees made one addition to our results.  The key to success is more than just customer service.  It is all about building “Customer Relationships” that are long lasting.  Watch for more surveys on a variety of business topics.

Advertise in the 2009

Clintonville Community

Directory!

If you want to reach the Clintonville market, the place to be is in the 2009 Clintonville Community Directory’s 10th Anniversary edition.  The Directory is one of the Chamber’s most successful projects.  Each year the Chamber prints 14,000 copies of our “community phonebook” and delivers 12,000 copies to each resident and business in Clintonville.  The yellow pages portion is exclusively Chamber members.  While as a benefit of membership, all members are listed in the yellow pages and receive a bold listing in the white pages section, you can enhance your listings with display advertising.

Advertising rates in the Clintonville Community Directory range from $700 for a full page, to $260 for an 1/8th of a page, with several options in between.  Rates for the full color back cover are also available on request.

The Directory is a proven marketing tool.  It’s unique size and larger listing type face make it a publication that Clintonville residents look forward to each spring.  The advertising deadline is December 15th, so reserve your space in the 2009 Directory today.  (For Order form click HERE).

If you have questions about the directory or need assistance with preparation of your ad, contact the Chamber office at 262-2790.

The Directory will be delivered in March of 2009.
